What we stand for

At one point we were in your shoes: lots of ideas but no clue how we could put them on the web. Fortunately, all this has changed.

Since our launch in 2009, we have helped thousands of individuals and small business owners create their own websites – without them having to write a single line of code.

Our Mission:

We want you to be able to build a successful website or online store and have fun creating it!

The faces behind the website

Robert Brandl

Robert Brandl

Founder & CEO - I started the website back in 2009 from my bedroom office. I've always loved playing around with web tools and now I am fortunate enough to have made this my full-time job. When I am not working you'll see me driving around with my electric bike in Barcelona.

Josep Garcia Bonilla

Content & SEO Manager - Hey, I am Josep and started working for WebsiteToolTester back in 2014. A wild ride that’s been teaching me all about website creation, email marketing and many other marketing tools.

Inka Wibowo

Content Manager - My job is to provide you with the latest reviews, videos and blogs to help you choose the best website builder for your site. Originally, I am from far-away Melbourne, and might even answer your next support email.

Annika WebsiteToolTester.com

Annika Müller

Content Manager - Hi, I'm Annika and have been part of the Tooltester family since 2020. I've been professionally testing, evaluating, and processing digital tools such as website builders for quite a long time already. I am very happy to be able to apply this experience at Tooltester and to expand my horizons every day.

Raphael Damain

Content Manager - My name is Raphael, and I am the French guy at Tooltester. I’m convinced that anybody can create a website or online store, of course by yourself. Therefore, I make sure that you find a tool that suits your needs.

What can I find on this website?

How is Tooltester funded?

If we help you find a service provider that you like, and you decide to sign up with them through our link, we get paid a referral fee. This does not affect the outcome of our rigorous testing processes.

In fact, if you have been to other site builder comparison websites you may have seen one specific provider ranking number 1 again and again. Well, they also asked us whether they could buy our top position. Obviously, we refused. It may not be so beneficial to our earnings but at least we can be proud of our work.

We want to be accountable to our readers ‒ that’s why we encourage you to leave feedback on our reviews by sharing any comments you may have.

Every purchase that you make helps us improve WebsiteToolTester even more. And best of all, it doesn’t cost you a cent more than what you’d be paying anyway.

Is there a way to support your work?

Of course, there is. If you have decided to sign up for a website builder, please use one of the links from our review site to get to the company’s website. Also, we’d love to receive a mention on your website once it’s completed. Facebook comments are welcome as well!

Where it all started

A shoe shop in Frankfurt called Nordendglück asked us to build their website. We found ourselves wondering how they could maintain their website regularly and easily once it was built.

To tell you the truth, we couldn’t find an optimal solution back then (it was 2008), mainly because website builders weren’t as powerful as they are now.

This experience, however, prompted us to research how our future clients could update their websites without the help of a programmer. Thus, the idea for WebsiteToolTester was born, which we rebranded to Tooltester.com in September 2021.

Today, we are very proud of having been listed among Europe’s fastest growing companies according to the Financial Times (FT1000) two times in a row.

Social responsibility

As a small business, we understand the importance of funding. That is why we like to help people in developing countries finance their small business ideas. We believe the best way to do this is through Kiva.org.

Kiva enables people from all over the world to lend money to small-scale traders, farmers or taxi drivers among others, with as little as USD $25. Many of these entrepreneurs find that their banks won’t lend to them because they don’t represent a large enough profit. This makes micro credit an ideal option. You can read more about the projects we’ve funded on our Kiva page.

🇺🇦 After the awful attacks by Russia, we’ve also made several donations to Ukrainian support organizations that help refugees and children in particular. If you want to help too, you can donate to UNICEF or The Red Cross, for example. #StandWithUkraine

Which website builder did you use to make this site?

WebsiteToolTester (as it was called initially) was originally built using Webnode. We even spent the first seven months on the free version. Year after year we received more traffic until, in 2013, we came to the conclusion that we need a more powerful system. Therefore, we switched over to WordPress. You can learn more about the details in this blog post.
